Periodically on the blog, I'll be featuring music from the Quirkipreneur playlist. What qualifies a song for the playlist? Being generally awesome and having a message that I can somehow warp into something on topic, of course!
So with all of the awesome possibilities out there, why open this blog with one of the most overplayed, potentially annoying songs of the past year?
Because... Minions! Seriously, aren't the Minions justification for just about anything? Besides, if you look quirky up in the dictionary, you'll see a group photo of the Minions. Well, you WOULD see that photo, except that they were too busy chasing a rogue banana to show up for their photography session.
Pharrell Williams From his hat to his interactive video experiments, this guy has got Quirkipreneurism DOWN. Just check out the manifesto for his movement:[I AM OTHER] (http://iamother.com/manifesto)
Go on. I'll wait. Back yet? Good. See what I mean? This guy GETS it, and I'll be talking about him more, later on down the road.
Pixar! Yepp, the computer animation company behind "Despicable Me" and the Minions. Once upon a time I dreamed of going into animation, and in some of my nerdier moments? I played around with 3D graphics and modeling, a field which Pixar practically invented. Since then, they've damn near perfected it. Another thing they seem to have damn near perfected is how to build a creative business culture - a topic TOTALLY relevant for Quirkipreneurs. More on that later.
But most importantly?
The song reflects core values that I... erm... value. It's not just a happy little ditty, no, there's an infectious (some would say annoying) audacity to its particular brand of HAPPY.
It's like the song reached deep into its quirky little soul and pulled out an in-your-face no-apologies exuberant exploitation of sunshine, lollipops and kittens. Even the most committed curmudgeon (I'm talking to you, Gru!) has to admire that.
I didn't post this video because I'm "Happy" to have launched this site, or even because the bright colors look awesome on the home page (but they really do, don't you think?!) I didn't include it because I think YOU should be happy. (Your mood is your business, not mine!)
I included this song because of the in-your-face audacity it takes to declare your happiness in this way. And that audacity? It's one of the core values around here.
Becoming a Quirkipreneur means being audacious enough to reveal your quirks. It doesn't matter whether your quirk is a ray of sunshine or a little black cloud, so long as you wear it proudly and without apology (unless apologies are your signature quirk!)
"Clap along, if you feel like a room without a roof!" <--Quirky AND Audacious!
